After its doubleheader on Wednesday against Hofstra (7-11), the Columbia baseball team will be done with its non-conference schedule. While the Lions certainly didn't plan on entering Ivy League play with a 4-9-1 record, they have reason to be optimistic about the upcoming Ivy League season.

The Columbia men's golf team has gone coastal in its start to 2007 by participating in the 61st Annual Western Intercollegiate on Monday. Hosted by San Jose State University, 36 out of the tournament's 54 holes were played during the first day on the 6,432-yard Pasatiempo golf course.

One year after he was forced out by Columbia, Dieter Ficken was unveiled as the new head coach of the CW Post men's soccer team. After spending the past year coaching at the grassroots level, he will return to the bench next fall and his expectations for the program could not be higher.

In the year after an NCAA Tournament where 11th-seeded George Mason made it all the way to the Final Four, March Madness was, well, not that mad. Of the top 12 seeds in the entire tournament, 10 are left after opening weekend. Not a single 12-seed upset a five.

The softball game this afternoon against Stony Brook University has been postponed due to field conditions. The Seawolves (7-6, 0-1 America East) cancelled three games last week due to the weather, and have not rescheduled today's two games against the Lions (9-10).

Last weekend, the Vienna Philharmonic made its annual appearance at Carnegie Hall, where it played a trio of concerts. In the Saturday night program, conductor Daniel Barenboim led the orchestra in an all-Bartok program, featuring the Second Piano Concerto with virtuoso Lang Lang.
