Like many of you, I'm not entirely sure what the University Senate is. Nonetheless, I strongly believe that we should abolish it. As far as I know, for too long the senate has failed to achieve anything we students want. It's high time we took failing into our own hands.

A five-game losing streak came to its long-awaited end Wednesday when the final horn announced a 20-10 victory for Columbia women's lacrosse over Fairfield. The Lions (4-6, 0-3 Ivy) shook off the doubts that challenged what their potential could be with a resounding win at home.

Absolutely cut ties with sports. Decided that 100 years of athletic misery was enough. Wham. BOOM. We weren't that good anyway, right? Why bother to keep trying?

For each of Columbia's three rowing teams, this weekend holds a different story and a different challenge. For the women, this weekend serves as an opportunity to rest and train before taking on several opponents in a two-day competition at next weekend's Charles River Challenge.

Men's tennis, having beaten Cornell in its Ivy opener 5-2, travels to Dartmouth for a 3 p.m. match against the Big Green today. The second stop on the Lions' Ivy League tour this weekend is a 1 p.m. match on Saturday against nemesis Harvard.

After finishing in the top five last weekend at the Hoya Women's Invitational in Washington, D.C., the women's golf team will be staying home to host a debut event. The first ever Roar-ee Invitational will be held in Mamaroneck, N.Y. at the Hampshire Country Club.
