Recently, a few friends and I coined a term that I love. Never before, in recent memory, has a phrase stirred my mind's eye or filled my heart with such hilarity. The term to which I refer is, of course, "The Ugly Lights." What are The Ugly Lights? When does one see them?

Last Thursday night, the Columbia Political Union held a debate between the College Democrats and the College Republicans on the war on terror and the war in Iraq. Most topics could have been endlessly debated between the two sides, with neither convincing the other.

Columbia softball extended its winning streak to six yesterday in a 2-1 victory against Yale, but stalled in a 9-0 shutout in the second game of their doubleheader. The Lions (15-17, 5-7 Ivy) ended the weekend 3-1 with two victories over Brown on Saturday.

After an auspicious start to the Ivy season, the Columbia baseball team took a step back this weekend in its push toward a league title, as the Lions (10-16-1, 5-5 Ivy) were swept by the Brown Bears on Saturday in a doubleheader.
