It was truly a breakout year for Columbia football. In the first season of head coach Norries Wilson's tenure, the Lions instituted a 3-3-5 defense that consistently kept teams guessing, finished the season with back-to-back Ivy League wins, and earned the team's first .500 record since 1996.

Coming off a campaign in which Columbia beat both Penn and Princeton, it appeared that the Lions were set for a breakout season. The Light Blue returned four starters from 2005-06 and added an outstanding freshman class of guards Niko Scott, Patrick Foley, and Kevin Bulger.

After its first seven games of the season, few people would have believed that this women's soccer team could finish its Ivy League campaign with a 6-0-1 record. Two wins, three losses and two draws against non-league opponents hardly made for an auspicious start.

Team and individual success at every level of collegiate competition defined the 2007 season for the Columbia fencing team. The women's team went undefeated in the regular season against the toughest schedule in the nation, while the men's squad took home the NCAA Championship in March.

Men's tennis had an outstanding year, as for the first time in seven seasons, the Lions won the Ivy title and earned a place in the NCAA tournament. They are slotted to play Ohio State, the second seed in the nation.
