If 2001 was the year of the exclamation point, then 2002 will surely be the year of the question mark. Last year, we were forced to assume our place in history before we had a chance to enter the job market, begin a family, and teach the next generation.

The Columbia men's basketball team has become exceedingly predictable. This year, like last, the Lions have struggled on the road and won easily at home.

While the rest of the Columbia student body comes back to a snowy New York, the women's basketball team must feel as if they never left Morningside Heights. The team remained on campus to practice all throughout the long break, hoping to hit a stride for the upcoming Ivy League season.

The Columbia wrestling team is wrestling with more than opponents right now as several key wrestlers are battling injuries and illness, but the Lions were healthy enough to finish seventh out of 23 teams at the recent New York State Championships at Oswego college.

Armrests are slightly damp from my sweaty palms, seat belt is securely fastened, and my breathing is a bit irregular (perhaps from the overly secured seat belt?). Phew, at least I'm still breathing!

There's something special about the Cayman Islands. Just ask the Columbia women's swim team. Since returning from a training trip in the Caribbean in early January, the Light Blue swimmers are a perfect 2-0, easily defeating Dartmouth 181-128 on Jan. 12 and Army 197-91 on Jan. 19.

Historically, Spectator has always been said to mimic The New York Times. But we have reason to suggest the opposite is true. On July 1, 1877, when the first Columbia Spectatorappeared, it pledged to avoid the pitfalls of "class politics."
