As the Columbia softball team begins the 2003 season this fall, they will be under the direction of a new head coach. Kayla Noonan, the team's assistant coach for the past two years, was named interim head coach on Oct. 4, and will serve as head coach until at least the end of the 2003 season.

My entire life revolves around the Yankees, so you can't blame me for being a little upset. Everything I do, in some way, is affected by them. I came to Columbia because it's close to Yankee Stadium.

The men's tennis team lived up to its seeding at last weekend's ECAC Championships at the USTA National Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows, but failed to exceed expectations by beating national powerhouses Penn State and Harvard.

Easily the most underrated film of the festival so far. The Dardenne brothers make good on the promise of La Promesse (1997), starting with the model for an In the Bedroom / Ordinary People story and taking it to a new level of morality.

A fictional film account of true events: in the 1960s, wayward Irish girls were sent away to live in camps of sorts, where they were used as labor for laundries operated by the Sisters of the Magdalene Order.

This landmark martial arts film was one of the main inspirations for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. (Its star, Cheng Pei-pei, played Zhang Ziyi's mentor in Crouching Tiger.) The action sequences are fun but overedited.

Along with The Magdalene Sisters and Bloody Sunday, Divine Intervention is one of the festival's statement films. Often hilarious, this Palestinian production consists of a series of absurdist comic sketches expressing Palestinian anger with Israel.
