Believe it or not, the 2002-2003 athletic year is fast coming to a close, and this is my final column as a Columbia College junior. As is the case every year, and even in a year like this one, I end with the Annual Phil Awards to celebrate the good and the bad of Columbia athletics.

Of course you aren't supposed to judge books this way, but an Iliad dust jacketed in blood-red with a black and white photograph of a haggard woman holding a pistol is just begging you to raise your eyebrows.

Henry Miller once wrote that America was "a fruit which rotted before it had a chance to ripen." If Miller was in fact correct, then at least we have a literal analogue to our situation--the stately, revered, and in most ways utterly repugnant durian.
