When junior Bart Seemen and Brown sophomore Greg Pace began their heavyweight match-up last Friday, Columbia was just 3-6 and 1-2 in the Ivy League. In the course of the next two days, however, the Light Blue took advantage of its first two home meets by defeating both Brown and Harvard.

In the first event of Saturday's dual meet at Navy, the 400-meter medley relay, the electronic scoreboard named Columbia's foursome of senior Reid Evans, first-year Mike Nelson, junior Ben Collins and senior Scott Ingram the winner, with Navy two-and-a-half seconds behind.

An upset of a nationally-ranked doubles team was about the only bright spot of the men's tennis weekend. The Lions were swept by Clemson University, 7-0, in their season opener held in West Point, NY, at the U.S. Military Academy.

The women's tennis team celebrated Valentine's Day weekend with a tremendous performance on the court. Columbia's Dick Savitt Tennis Center was the sight of Friday's dominating performance, during which the squad routed Maryland-Baltimore County by a score of 7-0.
