The start of the season has represented a bit of a downer for Columbia men’s basketball over the last few years—two years ago, the Lions did not notch their second win of the season until December 27th. Last year, despite finishing 10-17, the Lions’s second win arrived on December 20th.

Point Guard: Brett Loscalzo plays with a maturity beyond his years and hit a huge three-pointer to hold off a late run by Longwood in the season opener. Loscalzo will face fellow first-year, Randy Jones, a quick, tenacious defender who splits the team’s ball-handling duties.

The women’s swim team picked up its first two wins of the season in dominating fashion on consecutive days at Uris Pool. The Lions downed Dartmouth 194-101 on Sunday, then beat Fordham 187-102 on Monday. The victories moved the Light Blue’s record to 2-2 overall, 1-2 Ivy.
