This year, the women’s soccer team went through two seasons. In one, they looked like a tough, aggressive unit that could outplay any team on any day. In the other, they spent vast periods of games on the ropes, simply being outplayed.

Not too many students showed up for this holiday weekend’s men’s basketball games against Long Island and Stony Brook. Few decided to leave campus late or come back early in order to watch the Lions continue their season-opening home stand.

Forget the common cold and the flu—the most debilitating disease to sweep college campuses is procrastination. Although liable to strike at any moment, this scholastic menace is most infectious in the final weeks of the semester, as work piles up and attention spans diminish.

I’m a big fan of all things Thanksgiving. I find it exciting that the bountiful harvest feast has been celebrated in nearly the same manner since 1621, centered around the same foods, give or take a lobster or two.

Before winter really sets in, put aside some time in the kitchen to prepare yourself for the cold. Cooking a full-size recipe for soups and stews and then freezing individual portions in plastic bags gives you a ready supply of warming meals.
