Early in the preseason, Columbia head coach Bob Shoop mentioned the depth at linebacker as one of the Lions' defensive strengths. So far, this depth has proven crucial as several projected contributors have already suffered from injuries.

In the fourth annual Liberty Cup, the Lions travel up to Jack Coffey Field in the Bronx to take on crosstown rivals Fordham. The Rams are led by second-year head coach Ed Foley and linebacker Marcus Taylor, and have won the last two contests against the Lions.
