Public Safety Reports Recent Crimes On Campus

The leading suspect in a string of burglaries around campus was apprehended on Monday. break The alleged thief attempted another robbery and was arrested by officers of the Department of Public Safety. "I believe he stole something out of Mudd yesterday," Associate Vice President for Public Safety James McShane said Tuesday. "He had returned to campus to steal again, and we were on the lookout for him. He was apprehended by our guys near the Law School Library, and turned over to the police." McShane confirmed that the suspect is currently being held by the New York Police Department. Brian Tesseyman, the special investigator handling the case, said that charges have been filed against the alleged thief. "He's been charged with four counts of burglary, Tesseyman said. "There are going to be more, but the District Attorney's still working on getting the cases together." The Columbia student arrested Jan. 30 was charged with a minor offense after an investigation conducted by detectives from the NYPD's 26th Precinct. Detectives from the NYPD's 26th Precinct pulled the student from his Neurobiology class, and confiscated a computer. "The was an investigation, and that investigation has determined that a minor offense was committed," Associate Vice President for Public Safety James McShane said Tuesday. McShane and representatives from the NYPD's 26th Precinct and the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Public Information declined to comment.
