"Ike Opens Orientation"
The function of education is that of "piercing the hazy cloud of misunderstanding which surrounds world problems," President Eisenhower told the Freshman Class at this year's Orientation Lecture yesterday at McMillin Theater.
Inaugurating another series of talks designed to acquaint Freshmen with the many facts of college life, General Eisenhower spoke about the purposes of education, drawing material from current national and international problems.
On the matter of foreign affairs he asserted, "Any country which treats the individual as a dignified human being is a friend."
